Premier: This propaganda should actually read DON'T REPORT IT, IGNORE IT


TO THE PREMIER
This brochure should be re-written to read - DON'T REPORT IT, IGNORE IT. The general public have a right to know - especially if they have a family member residing in a state government nursing home - that staff "reporting it" will have their employment terminated by Queensland Health. If they "report it" and they are casual staff they will receive no more work. Whistleblowers also face the risk of having other employment - they may eventually acquire - interfered with by vindictive, disgruntled management. SING has documented evidence of this type of vindictive action in our possession.



And the second part of this Queensland Health document, Premier; is it just propaganda too?

TERMINATION OF EMPLOYMENT
Queensland Health have terminated the employment of Karen Smith, SING SUPPORT GROUP member, for releasing copies of documents (delivered to her home) to Network Ten in March 2008. These documents were released to Network Ten in the public interest. These documents were also hand-delivered, by the Whistleblower, to the Queensland Police Service. This case involved the sexual assaults of at least seven frail, older females by a male resident residing in Bramble House, Eventide Nursing Home, Brighton. The assaults took place over a number of months and were first brought to the attention of an advocacy group in July 2007, when the victims numbered two. An informant was to make a media statement at that time, but reneged. After exhausting all avenues, both federal and state, these copied documents were released to Network Ten.

It appears that Queensland Health believe that this male resident's right to privacy and confidentiality far outweighed the human rights of his female victims to live in a safe environment, free from sexual/physical and psychological assault/abuse. Premier, if one of these females victims was your Mother wouldn't you want to know?




TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC
Your family members residing in a nursing home where staff can have their employment terminated for speaking out when they witness sexual, physical and psychological abuse/assault- are not safe. While the threat of employment termination hangs over the head of staff witnessing wrongdoing - your family members are not safe.

Your family members are not safe because staff who are afraid their employment is at risk if they report will - SEE NOTHING, SAY NOTHING AND HEAR NOTHING.

TO THE PREMIER, MINISTER LUCAS AND MINISTER ELLIOT

SHAME ON ALL OF YOU THAT THE ONLY WAY STAFF ARE ABLE TO STOP ASSAULT, ABUSE AND NEGLECT IS TO CONTACT THE MEDIA OR REPORT DIRECTLY TO THE QUEENSLAND POLICE SERVICE.

SHAME ON ALL OF YOU FOR MISLEADING QUEENSLAND HEALTH STAFF TO BELIEVE THAT THE REPORTING OF SUCH ABUSE/ASSAULT WILL BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY. IT IS NOT.

SHAME ON ALL OF YOU THAT YOU ALLOW THE ABUSERS TO FLOURISH AND REMAIN EMPLOYED WHILST THE INFORMANTS OR WHISTLEBLOWERS ARE VILIFIED AND VICTIMISED.

SHAME ON ALL OF YOU THAT THE BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS OF THE SEVEN FEMALE VICTIMS - TO LIVE IN A SAFE ENVIRONMENT - WAS NOT PROVIDED BY QUEENSLAND HEALTH.

DOES ANYONE AT BRAMBLE HOUSE, EVENTIDE, BRIGHTON HAVE FURTHER INFORMATION REGARDING THIS SERIOUS MATTER?

  1. The important things to remember on the brochere almost sounds like a veiled threat. I recall attending a code of conduct (i like to call it code of cover up)training day where we were told to be careful about who we report and that we will have to work with that person after the fact. I said that very mentality is why things go unreported. When the training was complete, myself and the male staff member that was supporting my coments had to report to the DON's office for a talking to about the forum and use of a training day. People should not be thinking this is just Eventide, it is all through QHealth, I work Rural Remote and the cover ups continue out here. I reported a staff member for inappropriate sexual advances toward a client which was reported to me from the client direct...guess what....she stills works there....I do not!! You got wonder about who's looking after your own in hospital these days!!

  2. What a load of CRAP.....no one is going to let any resident be abused and say nothing. SING would like everyone to believe that all Nurses are too frightened to open their mouths, but it is untrue.
    Karen Smith and her lackys perpetuate this myth to advance their own cause.

    Me, I am glad Karen finally got what she deserved....THE SACK!!! It's been a long time coming....thankfully QHealth finally won out.

  3. If a Nurse wanted to speak out about abuse, but was frightened, why go to SING, wouldn't they be better going to the Union for support?

    Answer this please Karen, why doesn't the QNU support you? If you are such a morale citizen, why doesn't the QNU come out in your defence?

  5. Hasn't the QNU just become another arm of the Queensland Government? What makes you think that the QNU is moral? An organiser asking a former member to remove four paragraphs from their sworn affidavit, doesn't seem very moral. Why does a person need the support of the QNU to be judged moral. There are some very immoral people who are members of the QNU. Two of them are mentioned in a Queensland Police Service report posted on this website.

I didn't say you need to be moral to be in the QNU, I just happen to know that you don't have the support of the QNU and I wanted to point that out, so others who read this post might ask themselves why wouldn't the QNU support a Whistleblower if she is as genuine as she makes herself out to be.

    I know some of your past history at Eventide, and you don't care who you try to trample to get what you want....guess what? I am one of the ones you tried to trample.....and I haven't stopped laughing since I found out you were sacked....Happy days are here again!!!

  7. Covertly....what a nice way to put it....sounds much better than saying copies of progress notes illegaly taken from Eventide, breaking the Confidentiality law that all employees of Q Health are bound by.

  8. I am confused about the purpose of this web site. I thought it was a support group for people speaking out about issues, not a forum for people to shit bag each other. If you're not here to support each other, why don't you go and form your own site, this is not support, this is bullying!!

  9. To the person who asked why wouldn't the QNU support a genuine whistleblower? The QNU chose to support the Registered Nurse and the Advanced Assistant in Nursing in this case. The same two mentioned in the Queensland Police Report and the letter received by the reporter. One was dismissed and the other retired. The the person who states that I trampled on her - you have me at a disadvantage as I do not know who you are - so therefore I cannot defend myself and answer your allegations with accuracy. This website was was formed to support and protect those speaking out on behalf of the frail, older and disabled resident/patients in our care. Therefore I will take these personal criticisms in the hope that eventually others will see the value of this website.

    All Karen wanted was to have the bullying, intimidation and assaults at establishments like Eventide to stop. If they had of acted to stop this is a timely and proficient manner, Karen too would have stopped. You have all got yourselves to blame. As to the person who is celebrating Karen's sacking, how immature are you? I truly feel sorry for those old people who have lost a great advocate.

  11. Why won't management let us get on with our job of caring for our frail. Can't they let us come to work and do what we mostly love to do. NO they have to bully and intimidate to suit their own agenda's. I really do not care if they get the promotion as all I care about is seeing that my client is clean, dry, fed and given the dignity they so deserve. BACK OFF Q HEALTH and let me do MY job.
