SINCE THIS POST ON THE 4 FEBRUARY 2010, THERE HAS BEEN ANOTHER COVER UP BY THE AGED CARE COMPLAINTS INVESTIGATION SCHEME INTO ABUSE OF RESIDENTS, BY A STAFF MEMBER, AT EVENTIDE NURSING HOME, BRIGHTON (SANDGATE), BRISBANE.
SING HAS THIS EVIDENCE IN ITS POSSESSION, BUT THIS SERIOUS CASE WAS NEVER FULLY INVESTIGATED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND AGEING'S AGED CARE COMPLAINTS INVESTIGATION SCHEME. KEY WITNESSES TO THIS ABUSE WERE NEVER INTERVIEWED. THIS ABUSIVE STAFF MEMBER WAS REPORTED MANY TIMES TO VARIOUS EVENTIDE MANAGEMENT OVER MANY YEARS, FOR HER ABUSE AND MISTREATMENT OF RESIDENTS.

internal witnesses were not interviewed,
documents were not viewed,
assaults were not reported to Police,
taped evidence that those in positions of authority did not fill in incident forms, and that some staff reporting serious matters were ignored.

To the Prime Minister, Minister Elliot and Minister Roxon,

What has changed in aged care since this letter below over four years ago? NOTHING!

What has changed for those Public Interest Whistleblowers who speak out on behalf of the vulnerable, elderly and disabled citizens in their care? NOTHING! 'SHOOT THE MESSENGER' IS STILL THE NAME OF THE GAME.

What message does sacking Public Interest Whistleblowers send to those considering reporting abuse, neglect and assault of our elderly and disabled citizens? KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR JOB.

What message does sacking those who speak out send to the abusers in the system? DON'T WORRY. IT WILL BE THE INFORMANTS AND THE WHISTLEBLOWERS WHO WILL HAVE THEIR EMPLOYMENT TERMINATED, NOT YOU.

SING SUGGESTS THAT THE REPORTING OF ABUSE, ASSAULT AND NEGLECT OF OUR VULNERABLE ELDERLY AND DISABLED NURSING HOME RESIDENTS, WILL CONTINUE TO BE DRIVEN UNDERGROUND. UNTIL THOSE DISCLOSING THE WRONGDOING ARE TREATED WITH RESPECT AND DIGNITY - RATHER THAN CONDEMNED, TARGETED AND VILIFIED - ABUSE IN OUR NURSING HOMES WILL ESCALATE. THE ABUSERS WILL FLOURISH AND CREDIBLE STAFF WILL LEAVE AGED CARE.

SING HAS IN ITS POSSESSION MANY OTHER CASES OF ABUSE, NEGLECT AND ASSAULT OF THE ELDERLY AND DISABLED. SING HAS IN ITS POSSESSION IRREFUTABLE PROOF OF THE COVER UP BY ENTITIES ENTRUSTED TO INVESTIGATE SUCH CASES.
