I am a 41yr old nursing assistant in NSW who watched your story on sbs, called Law and Order. I felt, your comments about what you have witnessed in your work in aged care was almost identical to my experiences within care facilities. I have seen so much in the past and advocated for those residents, whom I also witnessed being humiliated, mistreated and abused. I have worked with the frail, disabled and elderly for 25 years, specifically in nursing homes. I Had to walk away from that and so I commenced doing community care work so as to keep people away from the horrors of what i had seen. I cant tell you, hearing your frustrations on this programme was to me so recognisable, I felt like I was the only one that felt like you did.I would love to be able to meet you, I would shake your hand and bow to you as you have done your upmost as a nurse to advocate for those you cared for, I applaud you Karen. I hope to keep in touch with you.
When will this industry ever be cleaned up? I have worked for many years in aged care facilities but am now permanently physically damaged due largely to the heavy work load and unrealistic time constraints. I didn't report my injuries. I thought I would heal and get back to work. Now, nobody seems to care. If they don't care about staff, do they care about residents????
